So, the Carlisle Corvette show, “Corvettes at Carlisle” is quickly approaching – it’s being held on August 23-26 2018 – and I’m excited. After hearing stories about it for years, for the first time ever, I’ll be heading to Carlisle!
In its third year as a four-day event (though this event has been going strong for 36 year now) the 2018 edition of the Corvettes at Carlisle show is expected to have a monstrous turnout, with over 5,000 Corvettes and 60,000+ fans from across the globe expected to flock to this Corvette-themed event. This thing is HUGE!
For those of you who don’t know what Carlisle is, Carlisle Events has been hosting collector car and truck events at their massive Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA since 1974. These family-friendly shows feature something for everyone – including special vehicle displays, car and part vendors, burnout contests, beauty contests, demonstrations, stunt shows, live music, special guest appearances, industry professionals, kid’s activities and more!
The fairgrounds are huge – with 100’s of vendors covering the 150-acre Carlisle Fairgrounds, and thousand more cars to see, you’ll definitely need more than one day to cover the entire event. I know I’m scheduled to be down there three days (Friday through Sunday, Aug 24-26) and intend to show my 2019 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe in the Fun Field, so come check my baby out and say hi!
What’s cool about this event is that it’s interactive; there are show-sponsored burnout contests (where contestants compete to become the Carlisle King *or Queen* of the Hill, autocross events (where experienced drivers can test their Corvettes and driving skills and where beginners can learn more about the sport), scavenger hunts (where anyone can participate for prizes), and even a bikini contest (I’m not sure if men can participate in this event, but I’m not sure I’d want them to either).
The Corvettes at Carlisle show also offers great shopping opportunities for everyone – Buy a car (new, used, or salvage) and everything to go with it from the 100’s of vendors filling the fairgrounds. The car corral even offers notary services (including temporary tags) so you can shop, compare and make the deal directly with the owner. What’s also cool, is that not only are there high-end displays and kits for sale, there is also a “swap meet” area that will be lined with vendors selling restoration and aftermarket parts, and a vast amount of used Corvette parts and cars. So, for those of you hunting for obscure new and used parts, it’s likely that you’ll find it here.
For those coming with spouses and children, there’s a kids’ section with crafts, contests and a play area, and a Women’s Oasis Tent with massages, makeovers, shopping and more. There really is something for everyone here.
At the “Corvettes at Carlisle” show, there obviously food too to keep you energized for the entire event. The fairgrounds offer fair-style food available to munch while you shop and a number of local and commercial food vendors set-up shop throughout the grounds. There’s even a brewery right next door where you can try their latest craft beers, cocktails, and munchies.
To top it all off, there’s also a Corvette Parade on Saturday night through Downtown Carlisle, which culminates into a giant street party with great music, food and 400 Corvettes.
I know I am! And I hope to see you there too.
